Supporting Eli

by @ 12:23 pm on January 11, 2007.

As you all know im on Eli’s side and and have supported him alot. He just turned only 26, and this will be only his 3rd full season as a starter. He is not very accurate alot of the time, and he misses guys that are open, but every QB does. He also plays in an offense where im calling the plays in my living room 75% of the time. Some guy sent me some interesting comparisons about this season and Eli. The jist of it is that we tend to run people out of town and undervalue people. Just look at the Coughlin situation. Everyone wants coughlin out, but i bet all of you think parcells should still be coach of the Cowboys. Parcells’ Cowboys have done jack and have not improved. Remember how great the cowboys defense was supposed to be? anyway, im going to break up this wall of text, and talk about eli in the next post

ok anyway, the comparison is between Eli and Rivers, who made the pro bowl and is being proclaimed as god, very much like tony romo(that worked out well). so heres the comparison this guy sent me which is pretty good.
Lets compare Eli to Philip Rivers last 4 starts.

    Eli                                 Rivers

    Rating                     81                                 78
    Comp.pct                 58%                         47%
    Yards total                 798                         717
    Yards game                 199                         179
    Att.                         134                             105
    TD/ INt                     6/3                             5/2
    Record                     1-3                             4-0

The reason that Rivers is 4-0 is that his defense has stopped the opponent. Eli LOST 2 games while scoring 20 and 22 points, while Rivers WON 3 games scoring 20,20,24

Eli lost 4 games this year scoring 20,20,21,22
Rivers won 4 games scoring 20,20,21,24

    Rivers made the pro bowl.
Eli is being labeled a bust.

thats basically it. You know what, Eli may never be Peyton, but what has peyton ever won. Give Eli another year or 2 before we run him out of here, it could be alot worse. Dave Brown, Danny Kanell, kent graham, and on and on.

You nailed the two things that hurt eli’s chances of winning DUMB, STUPID, MORONIC, SHIT play calling is 1 and the def. Those r some pretty interesting stats about eli/rivers dont know how much to read into it though. and i totally agree with u giants cant jump the gun about this guy yet with him only having 2 full seasons under his belt..and people seem to forget his play dropped off huge when toomer and Luke P. went down…thats his most efficient WR and his #1 body gaurd gone and replaced with LOSERS!

  3. Rick from Pittsburgh Says:

So is Eli all that bad or is the penalties and dumb mistakes from players on both sides of the ball? Eli does make mistakes but a lot of the time he is in a 3rd and forever due to drops and penalties!!

  4. GiantsFanInCT Says:

although like i said need to give eli more time take a look at these numbers again rivers does have the BEST RB EVER in his backfield and SD was lucky to avoid major injuries

Att Cmp Yd TD Int Rate
    Rivers 460 284 3388 22 9 92.0
    Manning 549 317 3405 26 19 77.4

  5. GiantsFanInCT Says:

    Tim Lewis gets the ax

  6. Kork! Says:

anyone concerned we’re comparing a guy 3 years deep in the league with a rookie?

let’s face it - the kid has the potential to be very good but he certainly has the potential to be a bust. what frightens me is the mechanics aren’t there alot of times. he looks like he can’t read the field and catch open guys. his pocket presence is lacking and that stupid “aw shucks” look doesn’t look like the mug of a leader. i’m not ready to throw him to the wolves (who will we dump him to anyway???) but let’s face it … there’s cause for concern.

aw shucks kork, he’ll be ok.
