A letter to the GNP Fans

by @ 12:25 pm. Filed under News!

To the GNP Fans:

As many of you know, I am contemplating one of the biggest decisions of my tailgating career, whether I should retire or continue playing. Like all athletes, I knew this day would come when I would have to stand before that proverbial fork in the road. But I must admit that it’s not until you’re actually staring at the two diverging paths do you really grasp how impactful and painful this decision can be. I was hoping to make this personal decision quietly and without much hoopla, but given the recent torrent of erroneous media reports and totally inaccurate assumptions, I feel that I have to come forward and publicly set the record straight with those for whom I have toiled the last two years–you fans.

This off season has been one of the best in my professional career. I have worked extremely hard to make sure that I’m completely out of shape and ready to tackle the rigors of another physical season. I am proud to say that at my body feels years younger and ready to compete at the highest level. I love training and preparation, and this off season has made it clear to me that this is one aspect of the game that I will miss tremendously when I decide to one day hang up the funnel. I went into this off season with every intention of entering a 3rd season with the GNP, the only team I’ve ever played for during my career. But I am human, and despite the images of me grimacing and tackling opposing ribs and bratwursts I have to face my mortality like anyone else. When an athlete like myself who does what I do for a living starts having doubts, then it’s time to take a step back and seriously consider my future. Anyone who plays in the GNP with doubts or second guessing is not only putting themselves at risk, but their teammates also. I will never do that.

What ’s been most disappointing has been all of this nonsense that I’m holding out for a new Weber grill. The truth is that tailgating has been very good to me and I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by advisors who have ensured that my family and I will live comfortably for the rest of my life. You deserve to know what’s really going on. My agent met with the GNP earlier in the year and discussed many things including my contract. The Weber grill is not the reason that I have not reported to training camp and it will not be a factor for my return. This has already been communicated to the GNPand while the reports may indicate a”hard line” taken by the team , it is not necessary, as this issue had been decided well before July

Despite what some might believe there are those of us who make decisions that have nothing to do with Weber grills or E-Z up tents. Many athletes ask themselves daily if they are emotionally and psychologically at the level where they can compete at the highest level for twenty-four weeks. For them also it isn’t about the money, rather a serious athlete asking serious questions about his future. All that I ask, after two seasons,is that you afford me the patience so that I might arrive at my decision on my own terms.

As GM Kork has said, the GNP are not going to hold a spot for me. I completely understand his stance as tailgating is a business and he must do what is in the best interest of the team. I know that I am only one player. I want to express my thanks to the GNP for their extremely kind words about my career as a Giant Nut to date. I have been proud to wear bootleg GNP T-Shirts thoughout my professional career. You have my word that I will try to make the correct decision as quickly as possible. If I decide to play, I hope that you will continue to cheer me on like you have for all of these years. If I decide to hang up the cleats, then I will bid you all a tremendous thank you for the privilege to play a game that has blessed me in so many ways and created memories I will cherish for the rest of my life. I humbly thank you for your understanding and being the best fans in the world.

Frank

GNP West Fund

by @ 12:25 am. Filed under News!

ok, first off the tickets are paid for, and you pricks owe me some serious dough, if you can get it to me before i have to pay my credit card bill next month thatll be great. 2nd of all, this was brought up during drunken times at a few points last year- Creating a fund where we all chip in and get shit that we need to upgrade. Im not talking about buying a new disco ball or 50 foot flag pole with hydraulic lifts. Before the 1st game we have to go thru our shit and see what is needed. Heres what im proposing so far.

-Tent (maybe 2)

-Gas for generator

-Year supply of charcoal/lighter fluid/cups/duct tape

-find out whats wrong with the microphone i remember it messing up last year

-Spare cash for that last minute stuff we always need

Im sure im forgetting alot of things, please add as you see fit. Also the tents are prolly the most expensive things, and theyre like $70 each or so. So im thinking $100/person? Suggestions people.

Our 2005 “Best Of” video converted for iPhone

by @ 6:57 pm. Filed under News!

Since almost half the original GNP has iPhones now, I converted the best of 2005 video for the iPhone. It may work on other phones too - unsure, it’s just an .mp4 file. It will definately play nicely on the iPhone though. The video download page was also updated.

Download the zip file at the link below. I included a DVD cover as well so you can add that to the file once it’s in iTunes.

Kork’s Training Camp Impressions

by @ 9:42 am. Filed under News!

I’m sitting here at Giants training camp in Albany. Some initial impressions:
-Jacobs is a big dude and is moving well. Pretty impressive.
-Toomer wears the longest shorts of every player
-Lorenzen is throwing the nicest balls this morning with Wright not far behind. Eli is STILL inconsistent.
-Ryan Grant showed off some nice moves this morning. He’s impressing me
-At all times, Lorenzen is the biggest guy on the field.
-Even in practice, the offsides flags are flying
-While running drills, Manning called hike, turned around and tossed the ball out to the crowd. Nice gesture… except the fan threw it back. heh.
-Steve Smith is catching some nice balls. Moss is real fast but didn’t get too much thrown his way.
-Shockey practiced this morning - caught one or two nice balls
-A couple of trick plays were run - looked so bad that I think they should be sticking to getting the “regular” plays working first.
-Wore my GNP t-shirt all morning and didn’t get punched in the face once. Score!
I’m looking forward to the evening practice which should be more contact and play running.

Evening practice thoughts:
-Eli was the third best qb today. A sick part of me wants to see Eli go down for 2 games so we can see what Lornenzens really got. Any chance of putting eli on the cover of Madden 09?
-Jacobs continues to impress. Im excited to see him perform this year
-Toomr looked good catching some nice end zone passes. Shockey too. With them and Jacobs we may stand a chance in the redzone.
-Some 5 yr old kid just pulled the fire alarm in the adjacent dorm causing the Albany football team to evacuate. Rumor has it that Jennings heart the sirens and just started running.
-speaking of Jennings, he seems to be a player favorite with both toomer and plax spending time shooting him advice. With his decent play today and speed I think hewould fit in well at the last rceiver spot with return duties as well
-in even more #15 news, his red caprice is sporting what have to be 28″ rims. Guess we know where last years salary went! In any respect, color me a fan. Anyone know were I can get a jersey?
-I’d be shocked if Hasselbeck isn’t cut
-it was surprising to me how little a lot of people here know about the gmen. Explaning who the guys in red jerseys are got old real quick!
-The official t-shirt for the Giants team staff says “Talk is cheap - Play the game” on the back.  Interesting choice for a team that spent more time “Ballin’” then “Sackin’”.
-This team doesn’t stand a chance against the NFC East let alone the AFC unless Eli REALLY steps up his game.
All in all a fun time today and I’m pumped!

Giants vs. Carolina

Are we going? should be a good game to scout out where we want to set up, keeping in mind a good spot that gets a lot of wind for the flags.

Lot 3 is a construction zone

by @ 3:28 pm. Filed under News!

Our “home” is gone. Lot 3 is history so it looks like the GNP will have to find a new spot this year.
